Innovation
Fomar was conceived as a foundation intended to make the most of all the available resources offered by the ocean. This is only possible if we rely on research and development to understand and interpret the sea and its resources.Since 1994 Fomar and its partners have been working and and evolving towards providing backing for innovation and research, putting the various participants in this scientific work in contact with each other, providing information, advising and even raising funds from various organisations to carry out projects.

Development, science and technology.
Fomar is a foundation which seeks to develop the sea, either culturally or scientifically. In this last aspect, several initiatives and activities in partnership have been carried out since the project was started. Some of the initiatives have created a precedent, such as Oceans III Millennium, a conference which took place in April 2001 in Pontevedra and which confirmed interest on the part of specific collectives in the subject. Thanks to such interest, the event was repeated in April 2003, this time on the campus of the University of Alicante, and attendees are invited to another conference in 2005 at the University of Cadiz. Other initiatives we are currently working on include the Fornauta SXXI international conferences on seamanship training and the Marine Pharmacy project.

Dissemination
There are various projects in partnership with other organisations which take several forms and are designed to propagate information on and expand marine culture and its characteristics.Oceans. Is a 5 hour long DVD produced and made by Aysav, and which presents an overview of the past, present and future of the oceans.
Cooperation
The sea and its resources represent a basic point of support in the development of nations and the wealth and upkeep of countries. Through knowledge of these resources and a coherent methodology in using them, economies can be offered more opportunities.
Fomar cooperates in making the maritime sector a means of self support for third world countries. It also cooperates in advising on topics relating to farming, sea pollution, hydraulic projects, sea farm facilities and beaconing and sea signage.
Culture
For the foundation, the promotion of interest in the sea is an objective both in its scientific aspect as well as in its recreational one. For this reason, beyond the foundation’s interest in giving an incentive to scientific development, we offer consultation and advice for sea-based specialized recreational activities suchas : diving courses, information on sailing and diving charters, and promoting leisure, tourism-related and nature themes for coastal sectors.
